eMail Aliases
What’s an Email Alias?
Think of an email alias as your mail’s secret identity, a “nickname” address that catches incoming messages and smartly forwards them to one or more inboxes. Want to sign up for sketchy services without sacrificing your privacy? Keep spammers away from your real address? Manage different project teams without burning out? Aliases are your answer.
Common Use Cases
For teams: Set up [email protected] as an alias that distributes messages across your entire team. No need to coordinate who checks which inbox, messages hit everyone automatically.
For individuals: Name change? Career pivot? Create an alias pointing to your new address and let the old one keep working. Jane Harris becomes Jane Rogers? Easy, keep [email protected] alive as an alias forwarding to [email protected].
Note
Here’s the key thing: Aliases aren’t real mailboxes. You can’t log into them. They’re traffic directors, not mail storage, incoming messages get routed to the actual user inboxes and stored there.
Setting Up Your Alias
Required Fields

Display Name The friendly name given to the alias.
Email Addresses Who gets the mail? List the full email addresses of everyone who should receive messages sent to this alias. One per line.
Optional Settings
Internal use only Restrict messages to this alias to only accounts living on your SmarterMail server. Keep external spam out if you want.
Include all domain users Feeling lazy? Enable this and every domain user automatically catches messages sent to the alias. This stacks with whatever addresses you manually listed, so you get everything.
